International Nurses Day according to International Council of Nurses is celebrated around the world every May 12, (the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth) to mark the contributions nurses make to society. This year we have an opportunity to create and design our own Operating Room Department both in the main lobby of the Hospital. My co-workers decided to bring down a case cart and show instruments the we are using in Orthopaedics, OB-GYNE, General/Laparoscopic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Plastic and ENT surgeries. We have dummies like bones and mini skin incision that people who are visiting the booth can play with. There’s educational brochures each specialty so that people will be aware of the services our hospital is offering in OR. There’s a board where visitors can write their appreciation to Nurses. We are also giving away free macaroons, USB flash drives and pens.
I am dressed up as a “Circulating Nurse” while my friend is a “Scrub Nurse”. People likes to take pictures with us while carrying OR instruments. I love some of the reaction when they see the instruments like “Oh my… Is this real?”.
